A 36-year-old dentist from Devon, Hannah Robinson, became the first adult in Britain to receive it at the Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.
Weight and blood sugar together. Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has opened two investigational trials of a weekly injection aimed at people living with obesity, with or without type 2 diabetes. Participants must be over 18, be living with obesity or overweight, and have at least one weight-related condition such as high blood pressure, abnormal cholesterol, obstructive sleep apnoea or cardiovascular disease.
Continuous glucose monitoring in primary care. The Dexcom ONE+ system, already approved and CE marked in the UK, is being studied in a primary care setting. The trial (ISRCTN12336055) looks at whether CGM improves blood sugar control and fits into routine care without disrupting practice. Adults with type 2 diabetes on insulin for at least three months can take part.
AI-driven prevention. Researchers at the University of Exeter trained an AI tool using data from one million people in the UK. It uses simple characteristics like sex and weight to match individuals to the most effective drug combinations, and AI is now also used in diabetic eye screening to speed up analysis of thousands of images.
